Cowichan Settlers
British Colonist
July 18, 1859
A party of thirty leave to-day for the Cowichan and Chemainus country to explore them, and report to their friends here. The Nanaimo Packet has been chartered for the purpose, and will be absent four or five days. The unsurveyed lands in Chemainus are the principal object; not feeling willing to wait till selection has been made by holders of Cowichan scrip.
