Death Warrant & Execution

High Sheriff of British Columbia or his Deputy

Greeting

Whereas "Ich-yst-a-tis" alias "Tom" a Cowichan Indian was duly convicted on the third of June 1869 at Victoria of the Murder of William Robinson by Chief Justice Needham of the Supreme Court of Vancouver Island and sentenced to death.

Now these are to require you or one of you to carry or cause to be carried out the said sentence by hanging the said "Tom" by the neck within fourteen days of the receipt by you of this Warrent at the usual place of Execution at the Gaol at Victoria until he be dead and that so soon thereafter as conveniently may be you do return to me here all that shall have been done under or by virtue hereof. Herein fail not.

And for all and whatsoever you shall lawfully do or cause to be done in the premises these presents to all persons whomsoever shall be your sufficient Warrant.

Given under my hand and seal at Victoria this 15th day of July A.D. 1869.

I hereby Certify that "Tom" a Cowichan Indian convicted on the 3rd day of June 1869 for the murder of William Robinson was on the 24th July Instant hung by the neck at the Common Gaol of Victoria until he was dead in accordance with the instructions contained herein.
